Accessible Cookery Sessions

Every Monday from 10 – 12pm  at Knowsley’s Centre for Independent Living (CIL) our community group, the Knowsley User Led Organisation host FREE healthy cookery sessions for people with disabilities.

We work in partnership with the Knowsley Community Health Development Team who deliver 4 week cooking sessions for local people with disabilities.

They are not just about ‘learning to cook’, the weekly sessions at the CIL help develop individual skills, knowledge and independence around preparing meals, healthier eating, cooking on a budget and the importance of food hygiene.

More importantly our sessions are designed to be friendly, informal and social – food is a great way to bring people together.

“I was a bit nervous when I started as I didn’t know what to expect. I was given a very warm welcome by everyone in the small group, which put me at ease straight away”.  JB

The main aims of our Accessible Cookery Sessions at the Knowsley Centre for Independent Living are to:

user-led-accessible-cookery-sessionsWhether your tired of cooking the same old thing, in need a few practical tips on cooking a bit more healthier or to be more confident in and around the kitchen – our weekly accessible cookery sessions are for you.

Family members, carers and support workers are welcome to join in too.

Vice Chairperson Paula “As a community group, it’s all in our name,  we are user led and are passionate about independence. We directly build and grow people’s confidence over the weeks, it’s what you can do that’s important to us, disability is secondary and we have been able to signpost and refer individuals to local support services.

We are really pleased to work in partnership with Clare & 5 Boroughs team to directly bring this activity into the Centre each week, it really does make a difference to everyone that has taken part”. Vice Chairperson Paula Thompson.

Booking for our Accessible Cookery Sessions is essential and do let us know if you have any access requirements. Call Nancie 07715 392 158 or email: hello@kulo.org.uk
