measure upJoin Measure Up! It’s a 12 week weight management programme, delivered by our very own Knowsley Community Health Development Team.

You’ll get info on nutrition, physical activity and healthy lifestyles as well as physical activity sessions. It is open to adults of any age, male or female who are keen to reduce their weight and best of all it’s FREE.

There are several courses running throughout Knowsley during the daytime and evenings. If you would like to take part simply book onto a screening session to measure your weight, height and BMI.

Healthwatch Knowsley’s Positive Mental Health Coffee Mornings have been really popular and are a great opportunity for people to come along and share their experiences and know that their voices are heard. It provides an opportunity to chat about your experience of Mental Health services in Knowsley in an informal environment. The Coffee Morning is open to anyone, including service users, family members, carers and organisations, so please come along and feel free to bring a friend.

Supplier Event with Knowsley Council – Update on Changes to Procurement Procedures

Knowsley Council has recently changed its procurement procedures, which could lead to more opportunities for small and medium businesses to compete for the supply of goods, services and works to the council.

The council would like to update you on these changes and you are invited to attend an information session.

The objective is for delegates to:

  • Learn about the new procurement procedures
  • Speak to members of the council’s procurement team
  • Access business support opportunities

Information sessions have been arranged in both Kirkby and Huyton on the following dates and times:-

Kirkby Leisure Centre on Tuesday 15th October 2013, at 09:00am to 11:00am

Huyton Suite on Wednesday 16th October 2013, at 08:00am to 10:00am

As a new resident-led board it’s our very first event and it’s over to you to help us shape our activities across the borough.

Tell us what’s important to you, or what’s bothering you. From housing, benefit changes, accessibility issues, local transport, employment…we are here to listen and importantly raise your concerns with the right people and get answers. We’ll also have guest speakers on hand to share with you activities, information and support available to you as a Knowsley resident.

What’s it all about?

Enter and View is one of the statutory powers of Healthwatch and allows us to enter services andview whether they are working well or not. Previously, the focus of the Enter & View Team has been Care Homes and Hospitals and these visits have helped us to identify areas of excellent practice as well as to make recommendations where areas for improvement have been identified. We are currently looking for people who are interested in joining the Enter & View team to carry out visits and support this process. Alzheimer’s Society Memory Mile

Alzheimers_Society_01Help raise money for Alzheimer’s Society by taking part in a Memory Mile, 8 September 2013 at Aintree Race Course. Starting from 11am
all monies raised by you will provide vital support to people living with dementia and help research to find a cure for the future

The great news is, for every walker who takes part in the Memory Mile, Bupa Care Homes will donate £2.50 to Alzheimer’s Society.

Please note that the event area is NOT wheelchair accessible.

FREE PIP tips for family carers!

Are you a family carer of an adult with a learning disability who is aged 16 or over? Do you want to know more about applying for Personal Independence Payment, which is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA)?

These free sessions will give family carers the confidence and information they need to support their relative with their application for Personal Independence Payment. Tuesday 10th September 2013 at the World Museum William Brown Street Liverpool L3 8EN.

Session 1: 10.30am to 12.30pm & Session 2: 1.30pm to 3.30pm (each session is the same, please choose a time to suit you best)

Come along for practical tips and information about:
– preparing for the PIP application
– filling in forms
– how the DWP assesses and scores people
– preparing for the face to face assessment
– the new appeals process and more…

Carers Support Groups in Knowsley

Knowsley Carers Centre host lots of Carers support groups across the borough – they are a great way for carers to meet other carers, have a chat and unwind. Support groups are a great way to share experiences, de-stress as well as find out lots of information – occasionally they have guest speakers and are always open to your suggestions !

Meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday in the month 14.00 – 16.00 at Knowsley Workshop, Longview Drive, Huyton, L36.

Halewood, Cronton Carers Group
Meets 2nd and 4th Thursday in the month 10.30 – 12.00 at St Mary’s Centre, Hillingden Avenue, Halewood, L26

Kirkby, Stockbridge Village Carers Group
Meets weekly Fridays 10.30 – 12.00 at Knowsley Carers Centre, 143a Bewley Drive, Southdene, Kirkby, L32 9PE.
