Exercise programme for over 55sHere’s news of a brand new FREE exercise programme exclusively for Knowsley residents aged 55 plus.

Delivered by Knowsley Falls and Wellbeing Service, the exercise programme is designed to strengthen muscles and bones, as well as improve your balance and mobility.

The Sewing Cafe

All materials are provided, as well as a teacher to show you how  – plus a cuppa and a very warm welcome.

Take part in Nordic Walking

nordic walkingThe Great Outdoors Project at the National Wildflower Centre, Roby Road Huyton provide weekly and free to take part in, Nordic Walks at Court Hey Park.

Walks are Led by qualified instructors every Thursday at 10am. All abilities are very welcome.

Poles and instruction are provided and simply meet up  at The National Wildflower Centre Cornflower Café.

If you can’t make Thursday’s, try Nordic Walks led by Community walk leaders on Saturdays at 10am and meet at The National Wildflower Centre Cobbled Courtyard Gates.

Coming up:
Tuesdays 1pm, at Halewood Park you can take part in a FREE Learn 2 Nordic Walk course. Starting 24th February for 4 weeks.  Meet at Halewood Environment Centre, Okell Drive, L26 7XB.

Autism Support Group in Knowsley

Local parents and carers meet on the last Thursday of every month 7.30 – 8.30pm at Kirkby Leisure Centre, Cherryfield Drive Kirkby.

The Autism Support Group is a great way to meet other parents, to talk, listen and share experiences.

Adult Social Care Knowsley

Knowsley Disability Concern will be hosting a FREE workshop for Knowsley residents called  ‘Getting Ready for Your Review’.

Over the coming year if you receive Adult Social Care the support you receive from Knowsley Council will be reviewed and KDC  want to make sure you are prepared.

This is an invitation for you, your family or your carers to attend a FREE workshop to help you get the most out of your Review on Wednesday 18 March 2015, 10 – 12pm at Knowsley Carers Centre, 143 Bewley Drive Kirkby, L32 9PE

Many Knowsley residents are concerned that their care and support packages will be reduced because of wider Council  cuts to services and KDC  urge you to come along to the next workshop to make sure you get the best possible outcome from your review.

Bradbury Fields Needs You!

bradburyfieldsCan you help Bradbury Fields services for blind and partially sighted people?

They urgently need volunteer drivers to help transport service users from their homes to the daily Active Vision Clubs and then return them home.

The Active Vision Clubs help to break isolation for people who would otherwise be socially isolated. By attending the clubs, blind and visually impaired people have the opportunity to make friends, enjoy various activities, enjoy the benefit of a delicious freshly made lunch and just have something to look forward to.

New Cancer Advocacy Service for Older People in Knowsley

KAPISLocal Charity Knowsley Pensioners Advocacy and Information Service (KPAIS) are proud to launch a brand new Cancer, Older People and Advocacy (COPA) service to support residents over 50 living with cancer.

The COPA service will provide independent advocacy, one to one support and help and for anyone over 50 who is affected by cancer in Knowsley.

Cancer can bring bewildering changes to the lives of those diagnosed but can also have a major impact on family, carers and friends.

KPAIS manager Pat McCarthy said “We will be supporting older people affected by cancer to make sure that healthcare professionals, social services, benefits and other agencies understand and respect their wishes.

We’ll support residents who are over 50 in Knowsley affected by cancer to make informed choices and decisions about their treatment and care. We can help residents find out whatever they need to know from information on cancer through to what practical help is available locally”.
